These are the perfume trends for 2024

Our Skins Experts have spotted eight leading perfume trends and we would love to share them with you. This autumn we will see several perfume trends developing, which will give us a great forecast for 2024. Whether you are a perfume expert and like to stay on top of trendy advances or are new to the world of perfume, we would like to invite you to explore these exciting perfume trends with us.

These are the fragrance trends for 2024, according to our Skins Experts

With Skins, you are always on top of the latest newness and trends. That's because our Skins Experts are on a daily search for the best new brands, fragrances and ingredients. We are aware of everything that is up and coming in the perfume industry and love to share this knowledge with you. This way, you as a perfume lover can keep trying exciting creations and continuously (re)discover what really suits you.

The rediscovery of vanilla

Although vanilla is not a new or trending ingredient, we expect this fragrance note to make a comeback. In an age where we are flooded with new choices every day and where there is always something special to discover, sometimes we just long for comfort and nostalgia. That is why we expect many perfumers to reach for a familiar favourite: vanilla. It is, after all, a classic fragrance note that everyone has positive memories of. We therefore expect many reinterpretations of vanilla; from warm and gourmand to fresh and spicy vanilla scents. Here are just a few of our favourites, each with a unique character.

Personal expression with perfume

Scent is a sensory communication tool with the world around us. Perfume is therefore often used as a form of communication, for example to impress on a first date. In 2024, however, we will see that more and more perfume houses will create fragrances for our own enjoyment. We want to wear personal perfumes that enhance our character and that we can enjoy most ourselves. For example, we see that ambrette seed is an increasingly popular perfume ingredient among perfumers. This vegetal musk note derived from the hibiscus plant has a very intimate feel and sits very close to the skin. Perfumes that give your own skin a pheromone boost and enhance your natural scent, such as Parfum 1 by Fugazzi, will also become even more popular.

Aromatherapy and “feel-good” fragrances

Aromatherapy is an ancient ritual used in various cultures thanks to its positive influences on our moods. In the cosmetics industry, we have recently seen many developments in the field of aromatherapy. More and more perfume houses are therefore discovering how to merge perfume and aromatherapy. We expect that it will become a trend to integrate perfume into everyday life in a more holistic way. Perfumes that open your chakras, soothing body mists that simultaneously serve as pillow sprays (Brume D'Oreiller by Marie Jeanne) and "feel-good" fragrances with invigorating citrus notes (Mefisto by Casamorati) - we are going to see it all in 2024.

Spiritual ingredients

As we mentioned above, perfumes with an approach to well-being are becoming increasingly popular. More and more people are living in big cities, working behind a screen and losing touch with nature. In recent years, for instance, we have seen a rising trend of mindfulness, meditation and yoga. People are looking for spirituality and a moment of relaxation. Therefore, we expect to see botanical fragrance notes that help us ground more often, such as sage, palo santo and frankincense. The smoke from these botanical ingredients is traditionally used to cleanse the air. As fragrance notes, they give perfumes an "earthy" touch and help us connect with ourselves.

Good to know: Did you know that the word "perfume" comes from burning incense? The word perfume comes from the Latin "per" meaning "grounds" and "fumus" meaning "smoke".

Sustainability & refillables

The perfume industry has a lot of room for improvement when it comes to sustainability. This is something we at Skins are also aware of. That is why we do our best to offer as many transparent brands in our range as possible that are consciously committed to sustainability. Our preference is for clean formulas based on organic, natural and upcycled ingredients, packaged in recyclable packaging. Not only because it is good for our skin and our health, but also because it contributes to a cleaner planet. In the perfume industry, we are fortunately seeing more and more brands creating refillable perfumes. For example the refillables from Kilian, Essential Parfums and Escentric Molecules.

Clean aesthetics

On TikTok, we saw the 'clean girl aesthetic' blossom for the first time. This lifestyle, which is especially popular thanks to celebrities such as Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber, aims for a minimal, sophisticated look. Whereas in previous years it was a trend to wear colourful make-up, contour intensely and draw sharp eyebrows, now the clean look is on the rise. We are seeing more and more cosmetics that emphasise your natural beauty rather than conceal it. This also translates into the perfume choices of individuals who aspire to this clean lifestyle. Think skin-like perfumes with a sophisticated soapy character reminiscent of clean skin.

Love of artisanal crafts

Handmade products have risen rapidly in popularity in recent years and the fragrance industry is no exception. We are becoming increasingly aware of our choices and are looking for products that exude quality, craftsmanship and unique design. At Skins, we offer several perfume houses that make multifunctional, artisanal packaging. Think of Perfumer H's hand-blown vials, and Arpa's that are also packaged in a functional soap holder. Marie Jeanne's wooden packaging is not only unique but can also be reused as a stylish object in the home. We expect to see many more brands turning perfumes and their packaging into beautiful objects by 2024. p>

Perfumes with a story

Finally, people are looking for authenticity and transparency like never before. The story behind the products we consume must be true and add value to our lives. The inspiration behind perfumes and their ingredients is therefore becoming increasingly important. That is why we will encounter even more storytelling in the coming year. We at Skins believe in the power of stories. Our perfumes are chosen based on the unique stories and passion of the creators behind each brand. In fact, we believe experiencing these stories is an essential part of discovering your perfect perfume. For example, consider Veronique Gabai's inspiring, sustainable creations inspired by a childhood in the Côte d'Azur.
