Blending interior perfume: these tips will help you create a unique fragrance experience at home

Blending your interior fragrance is a clever way to personalise the fragrance experience at home and adapt it to your mood or occasion. The idea behind blending is to combine different fragrances to create a unique, pleasing ambience. But how do you get started with this? With these tips, you can soon get going yourself.

Tip 1: Vary with room sprays, scented candles and diffusers

There are different ways to diffuse home fragrance, such as room sprays, scented candles and (electric) diffusers. For example, use a diffuser you like and pair it with a lovely room spray to give a sophisticated twist to the fragrance experience in your home. For example, try pairing the charming Dr Vranjes Oud Nobile sticks with the freshness of Zenology's Citrus Nobilis Ambiance Trigger. The fresh citrus scent of the room spray combines well with the fragrance of Oud Nobile, which is particularly suitable for promoting your focus and concentration. You get an exciting mix of scents by pairing a diffuser with a room spray. You can also combine two diffusers with each other. The Oud Nobile sticks together with the brand's Ginger & Lime sticks, which blend fresh notes of lime with the spicy notes of ginger for a sparkling, welcoming ambience. Experiment with different types of interior perfume to find out what works best for the spaces in your home.

Tip 2: Go for fragrance notes that complement each other

You can never go wrong when blending perfumes by choosing fragrance notes that complement each other. Lavender and vanilla, for example, are ingredients that complement each other. For example, you can perfectly blend Essential Parfums' Divine Vanilla Candle with Dr Vranjes' Terra Sticks, which blend vanilla and lavender with musk. Or opt for a more pronounced combination by combining the Vanilla Candle with the Eccentric Scented Candle by AUGUST&PIERS.

Tip 3: Experiment with fragrance notes that contrast

Make matters interesting by choosing contrasting fragrance notes. While vanilla and lavender complement each other, vanilla combined with citrus creates an exciting play between two extremes in perfume families. To do this, combine the previously mentioned Divine Vanilla Candle with Trudon's Room Spray Odalisque, giving the warm scent of vanilla a spontaneous, fresh haze brimming with citrus.

Tip 4: Choose a base fragrance

Blending fragrances becomes easier if you have a good core scent. In perfumes, certain fragrance notes are more often used in base notes, as they give more body to a perfume's olfactory pyramid. A few fragrance notes you can use are sandalwood, cedarwood, vanilla and patchouli. You can make the following combinations with those fragrance notes:

  • Darling Scented Candle by AUGUST&PIERS with the Skins x ZENOLOGY Trigger Spray. Mix the sophisticated scent of cedarwood, rose and violet with the woody character of our trigger spray that contains Palo Santo, sparkling pink pepper and fresh geranium. This sophisticated combination was tipped by Jannita, Training manager at Skins.
  • Darling Scented Candle by AUGUST&PIERS with Scented Candle Oud by Diptyque. The floral, woody scent of Darling meets the smoky notes of oud, patchouli and sandalwood. This duo was tipped by Skins Expert Esmee.
  • Scented Candle Oud by Diptyque with the Scented Candle Ambre by Diptyque. The distinct, smoky scent of Oud blends with sophisticated amber, wood and leather. This candle pairing is a tip from Diptyque.
  • Scented Candle Oud by Diptyque with Scented Candle Roses by Diptyque. Skins expert Remco combines these sophisticated candles to bring together the scents of oud, patchouli and sandalwood with the fragrance of a beautiful rose bush.

Do you already have a favourite scented candle, room spray or diffuser and would like to give it a unique twist? Then use it as a base scent and give it a twist by varying it with other unique interior fragrances. Tip 5: Experiment with different fragrances and intensities

Have you found a good combination but one of the perfumes falls away against the others? Then try experimenting. If you use a room spray, you can spray it less or more for a more powerful or less intense fragrance experience. If you want your scented candle or diffuser to stand out more, consider placing it in a different area of the room. By placing the products in a different spot, the fragrance could spread better (or less), making the fragrance experience more noticeable. This creates a more balanced ambience in the room. Take Juliette has a Gun's Not a Candle, for example. This beloved creation creates a sophisticated atmosphere when paired with Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Baccarat Rouge 540 Candle. Two iconic perfumes together, but you might want to adjust the fragrance intensity. Instead of the Not a Candle, you can use the Not a Home Diffuser. Compared to the scented candle, the diffuser provides a more consistent fragrance experience. Thus, together with the scented candle, you create a powerful interplay that builds a sensory experience.

Tip 6: Adapt the fragrance experience to the season, time of day and the type of room

Yet, of course, you don't have to use certain fragrance notes for a whole season. You can also adapt the fragrance experience to the time of day. Fresh notes like bergamot, eucalyptus or tuberose work well for the morning, while warm fragrances like vanilla or sandalwood give a fine fragrance experience in the evening.

Finally, the rooms in your home also each have their own purpose. You may opt for calming, soothing ingredients in the bedroom, while in the study or living room, you find energetic and warm ingredients more appropriate.
