What does a toner do for your face?
A toner helps refresh your skin and balance its pH after cleansing. Depending on the formula, a toner can moisturise, soften or mildly exfoliate. This makes skin better prepared for the next steps in your routine, such as serums and moisturisers.
What is toner for the face?
A toner is a liquid skincare step that you use after cleansing. There are different types of toners, such as hydrating, calming or exfoliating varieties. For example, Patyka's Soothing Milky Toner is a gentle, soothing toner that calms and hydrates the skin.
How do you use a toner for your face?
The most important thing is to always apply a toner on clean, cleansed skin. You use a toner after your Cleanser and before your moisturiser. Gently pat your skin dry and then choose the application method that best suits the texture of your toner:
- With your fingertips: does your toner have a thicker texture? Then apply a few drops to your fingertips and gently press it into the skin.
- With a cotton pad: is your toner lighter and more fluid? Then apply a little to a (reusable) cotton pad and smooth it over your face with gentle, upward strokes.
What does an acid toner do?
An acid toner, also called an exfoliating toner, contains acids such as AHAs or BHAs. These remove dead skin cells, refine skin texture and create a radiant complexion. REN Clean Skincare's Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic is a favourite of our Skins Experts. With lactic acid and willow bark extract, this toner helps smooth and even skin without drying it out.
What does an exfoliating toner do?
An exfoliating toner is another name for an acid toner. These toners contain ingredients that gently exfoliate the skin, such as fruit acids or salicylic acid. Our Skins Experts recommend choosing an exfoliating toner tailored to your skin type and using it several times a week for best results.
