What is Memo Paris?
At Skins, you'll find hairbrushes from Mason Pearson - a household name in beauty since 1885. In this Short Story, our Skins Experts tell you more about the brand's heritage, the different brushes and their uses, and find out how to choose the right model based on your hair type.
A heritage of craftsmanship
Mason Pearson's story began in Yorkshire in the mid-19th century. As an engineer, he developed an automatic brushing machine as well as the famous rubber pad - innovations that are still used today. Mason's wife and daughters continued the family business and even today everything is assembled by hand in England. The design is essentially unchanged since 1920.
Does Mason Pearson stimulate hair growth?
A Mason Pearson brush gently massages the scalp thanks to its flexible rubber pad. This stimulates blood flow, which can be beneficial for healthy hair growth. At the same time, the brush distributes natural sebum from the scalp to the ends of the hair, which protects the hair, makes it shiny and more manageable.
How long does a Mason Pearson hairbrush last?
A Mason Pearson is designed to be a durable hair tool. Combining traditional craftsmanship and sturdy material, you can rely on the quality for years with normal use. Many models are even passed down from generation to generation - with care and proper maintenance, your brush will easily last for decades.
What's the point of Mason Pearson's brush?
These brushes make a visible difference: they effectively detangle, reveal shine, protect hair and stimulate the scalp. Thanks to the balanced composition of bristles and the iconic rubber pad, brushing feels pleasant and thoughtful - every day.
What types of hairbrushes are there?
Mason Pearson brushes are available in three styles to suit your hair thickness and needs:
- Pure Boar Bristle: for fine to normal hair. There are also 'Sensitive' models for very fine or thinning hair.
- Boar Bristle & Nylon: for normal to thick hair. This combination offers strength and softness.
- Nylon: for thick, strong or difficult-to-handle hair. Extra strength for detangling and smoothing.

The classics are still available and are categorised by size and brush type:
- Large Extra: for long, thick hair.
- Small Extra: more compact, suitable for medium hair.
- Popular: nylon & boar bristles for fuller hair.
- Junior: for shorter hair or as a handbag.
