Here's how to maintain a scented candle

A scented candle performs best when you take good care of it. Keep the wick short - about three to five millimetres - to prevent soot formation and keep the flame stable. Let the wax melt completely to the brim when burning for the first time so that the candle continues to burn evenly. Avoid draughts as this can cause flickering flames and irregular burning. Always extinguish a candle without blowing to minimise smoke and splashes. You do this with a candle cover, for example. A wick cutter makes it easy to keep the wick at the right length.
