From perfume to patisserie: Skins × Atelier Lucas in Knokke-Heist

This summer, Skins and Atelier Lucas are bringing together scent and flavour in Knokke-Heist.

From 23 July to 3 August, a selection of fragrances from the Skins collection will serve as the inspiration for six exclusive pastries and three drinks at Atelier Lucas and Lucas Bakery.

From pistachio and vanilla to citrus and matcha: ingredients beloved in the world of perfume are taking a temporary place in the display case of one of the Belgian coast’s best-known bakeries.

Discover how nine fragrances are taking on a new form – not in a bottle, but in pastries and drinks.

When scent and taste speak the same language

Vanilla, citrus, raspberry and pistachio have more in common than meets the eye. They are just as likely to be found in a patisserie’s display case as in a perfumer’s workshop. What one person turns into a pastry, another transforms into an olfactory creation.

That is precisely why gourmand perfumes are so popular. Perfumers draw their inspiration from ingredients we recognise from patisseries, coffee bars or the kitchen, and translate them into scent. Think of vanilla, nuts, fruit or coffee: ingredients that not only add flavour but also play an important role in perfume.

As a result, the worlds of perfume and patisserie are closer than you might think. What ends up on a plate in one context can form the basis for a fragrance in another. It was precisely this overlap that formed the starting point for the collaboration between Skins and Atelier Lucas.

Atelier Lucas in Knokke-Heist: a must-visit spot on the coast

Anyone who knows Atelier Lucas will be familiar with the queue.

On summer days, visitors queue right out onto the street for the sourdough bread, the viennoiserie and the patisserie – items that many come back for specifically. Not for an event or a special occasion, but because, for many, a visit to Atelier Lucas has become part of a day out in Knokke-Heist.

That makes Atelier Lucas a natural choice for this collaboration. A place where, every day, ingredients are used that are also beloved in perfumery.

    Six pastries, three drinks

Pistachio by D.S. & DURGA, Vanilla Powder by Matiere Premiere, Petit Matin by Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Meliora by Parfums de Marly, Fruity by Layer+ and L’Eau Papier by Diptyque formed the starting point for six exclusive pastries from Atelier Lucas.

The ingredients made the transition from bottle to display case. Pistachio became a biscuit. Vanilla, a flan. Lemon, a biscuit. Raspberry, a jam. And the sesame seed from L’Eau Papier found its way into freshly baked bread.

The collaboration extends to Lucas Bakery, the coffee bar at the rear of Atelier Lucas. Here, Thé Matcha 26 by Le Labo, Workaholic by Fugazzi and Encore by Teo Cabanel provide the inspiration for a matcha, a coffee and a chai.
