Thank you for participating in the Parfum 1: History Repeats masterclass. Together with our Skins Experts, you have dived into the history of perfume, got to know different perfume houses, and we told you more about perfume families with unique ingredients. With fifteen extraordinary perfumes, you experienced different scents on the blotter and skin.
Fragrances are divided into olfactory families. A fragrance family is a group of fragrances categorised together because of their similarities and complementary differences. There are four leading olfactory families with one noticeable scent, and within them, a series of olfactory families in which that prominent scent blends with other scents. The scent wheel below shows which families there are and how they are structured.
Cologne & Citrus
Citrus fragrances are known for their vibrant character. Ingredients like lime, bergamot and neroli add a sparkling facet to each fragrance composition. Do you like perfumes with a fresh touch? Then this is a lovely fragrance family to explore. During the masterclass, we discovered the following fragrances in this family.
Floral
Perfumes from the floral fragrance family remind you of a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Think of rose, iris, jasmine, tuberose or magnolia. The possibilities with flowers in perfumes are endless. Which of the three fragrances from this family is your favourite?
Incense
Resin and incense have a magical effect in perfumes. Resin gives a fragrance more depth and character, while incense is a beautiful addition. Those who love warm and mystical scents will also appreciate creations with resin and incense.
Leather
Rough, animal-like, soft or supple: leather has a different effect in every fragrance. The power of leather in perfume is often underestimated. Leathery accords enrich a scent and are created with ingredients such as styrax, oud or labdanum.
Chypre
Chypre is an exciting fragrance family in which many aspects come together. The perfumes have a sparkling top note, a floral heart and an earthy base. Chypre fragrances usually have a warm character and are formed by accords of bergamot, rose, patchouli or oakmoss. Check out the chypre fragrances we discussed in this masterclass.
